Velden History

The history of Velden is indeed colourful having started in 'Ted Heaths 3 Day Week' at the end of 1973 and famous for appearing in 2 series of BBC's "Troubleshooter" with the late great industry 'Guru' Sir John Harvey-Jones. Below is a summary of some of Velden's historical milestones.

1973

Velden Partnership Start-up late 1973
Manufacturing Wrought Iron Gates & Railings

1979 Installed first NC Machine
25 Employees
1980

Started TSL - The Service Ltd, Welding, Fabrication & Sheetmetal

1984

TSL acquired Shifnal Engineering & Welding
Merged with Velden Partnership as Velden Engineering (UK) Ltd

6 New CNC Machines

50 Employees

1985 Won Contract with Gardner Engines. Transfer of Men, Machines & Work
1987

1st UK Jobbing Shop to achieve ISO 9002

Invested in 6 New CNC Machines

1990

100+ Employees

Host company for Best Practice DTI 'Inside UK Enterprise"

1994

Took part in North West World Class Manufacturing Programme

Won Contract with Eaton France to Transfer Machines & Work

1995

Appeared on BBC's "Troubleshooter" with the late Sir John Harvey-Jones

Achieved IIP Status

1996 Won a North West Quality Award
1999 £0.6m Investment in New Plant, Buildings, Computer Hardware & Software
2001 Won Contract with Alstom for machining work
2002 Won Contract with NSK for bearing machining. Transfer of Men, Machines & Work
2004

Setup Busbar Production Cell

Upgraded to BS EN ISO 9001:2000

Invested in New Okuma MA500HB CNC Machining Center and Okuma LB300 CNC Lathe

2005 Secured major ongoing contract to supply busbars to large generator manufacturer.
2006

Aquired Ronco Precision Engineering Ltd (Velden Engineering Group)

Invested in CAD / CAM Software & Mitutoyo CNC CMM

2007 Invested in OMAX CNC Waterjet Machining Cener
2008

Added new Digital Welding Sets

Mill Development Project Started

Won Training Award from Alliance Learning

2009

Re-engineered Ronco @ Columbia Mill

Invested & Installed Electro-Tin Platining Plant

Upgraded to BS EN ISO 9001:2008

2010 Launched New Website
